Overview

Providing professional fluoride treatments at Miller & Miller Dentistry can help children with developing teeth and adults with decaying enamel. Communities that add fluoride to their water supply have fewer problems with tooth decay and cavities. A natural mineral found in some food and the earth's crust, fluoride builds up teeth and bones. Best Candidates

Fluoride treatments can be given to patients of all ages! Dr. Chris or Dr. Matt recommend fluoride treatments for adult patients who don't have fluoride in their drinking water or who are prone to cavities. There are different flavors to make these treatments easier for all patients.

What to Expect

Fluoride treatments are performed every six months after your cleaning appointment. As soon as you select your flavor, the hygienist will prepare the treatment as either a gel, foam, or varnish. It will be left on for up to five minutes to allow the fluoride time to penetrate the enamel before it can be spit out. The hygienist will use suction to help clear your mouth after the treatment, but you may not rinse your mouth, eat, or drink for at least 30 minutes after.

Follow-Up

In some cases, Dr. Chris or Dr. Matt may give you fluoride supplements for you or your child to do fluoride treatments at home. While these treatments help to strengthen the enamel, you should continue or establish a good home oral care routine, including brushing with a fluoridated toothpaste and flossing. You should also attend your scheduled exams and cleanings at Miller & Miller Dentistry, so your dentist can re-assess your need for fluoride treatments.
